We are not born over-comers; we are trained to become them.
Are we people of a different spirit who see the land of our inheritance as a land we can possess while we battle through and expel the undesirable conditions of our thought life allowing our Christ-like transformation to take place?
The Cross is not some past tense event but an ongoing daily experience with Christ which continues to reveal the true condition of our hearts. At this altar we shall learn to relinquish the many unlovely aspects of our lives in exchange for the beauty of Christ. If our growing years in the faith have been those of pampering and coddling by teaching that has kept us from the realities of our faith then we will be troubled by the fiery trials ahead.
Overcoming is not easy but it is necessary. The discipline, the adversities and the training are meant to build in us the quality character we so admire in Joshua and Caleb and to keep us from giving up along the way. For without doubt we shall be confronted by many obstacles sure to be found along our journey with Christ – not for defeat but to Overcome.
